Sharing Custody

I know we have a couple mom's and dad's on the forum in a sharing custody situation (I think), so how do you deal with sharing your kids with your ex?

Does anyone have parents that aren't together? How did/do you like being shared? Did you get to see both parents equally or did you spend a majority of the time with one parent?

My parents aren't together.
I live with my mom and with her new husband. My dad works overseas so I spend most of the time with my mom but my dad visits me like 4 or 5 times in a year.

My parents split up before I was born. I lived the majority of the time with my mother till I was 15. I would only see my father every other weekend. Then her new boyfriend didn't like me living there so I was sent to live with my father. Problem there was that he had kids with a new wife and there was no room for me, so me and one of my half-brothers had to share a room.

As for being shared, as far as I remember I didn't mind it as much when I was a little kid. I sometimes missed my dad, but when he was around we always did cool stuff. The problem started when I was 13-14 years old. My mom was really strict when it came to what was my dad's weekend. If I wanted to do something with my friends in the weekend I couldn't because I had to go to my father that weekend. I even remember not being able to go to a concert in my dad's city because it was not his weekend.

I grew up in a broken home. Dad was gone, out of the picture. He was an abusive alcoholic and made our lives miserable for years until my mom finally left him.

As for my kid, I am not with the mom anymore. I used to get my daughter every weekend but recently her mom has wanted to start alternating weekends. I kind of accepted the alternating weekends thing but when it actually is my turn she always seems to have a birthday party going on, family visiting, etc. Like today, I was supposed to have my kid here but instead they're at some birthday party for someone.

When that happened in my family, my dad wanted me there the next weekend as compensation, so I'd see him 2 weekends in a row. I would've loved that but for some unknown reason my mom hated that and they fought a lot about it, which is why I eventually had to give up everything because it was someone's "turn".
