So I was at the gym today and I noticed a boy who seemed like he did not want to take his shirt off to go swimming and the dad was giving him a hard time for it which did nothing but draw attention to them and made the boy even more nervous and he started crying while the dad was getting more angry. .....Some dad.

Anyway, are you comfortable taking your shirt off to go swimming if you are a guy

or wearing a 2 piece bathing suit to go swimming if you are a girl?

Or do you prefer to stay covered up?

I think what that dad to his boy just absolutley inexcuseable. There is a reason that boy didn't want to take his shirt off and I feel like smacking that so called dad of his.

I have no problem wearing 2 piece bathing suit to go swimming but it depends on where I'm going swimming. When I work out for the state dive team that I'm a member of, I wear a 1 piece bathing suit. The 1 piece is spandex and gives me more speed in the water. If I'm going to the beach or just hanging out with friends, in in their pool or mine, then I wear my 2 piece.

I dont see why people are afraid to take their shirt off. If you are over / under weight, you are still over / under weight with a shirt on. A thin layer of cloth does not change that fact. Its not like if you take off your shirt, people are going to suddenly notice that you are over / under weight. People should stop caring about what other people might think and just be comfortable in their own skin.

I've never been all that comfortable with not wearing a shirt in Public. Guess its mostly cause I'm a little over weight.

It depends. I were a T-shirt over my swimming stuff when I'm in a sunny country, but in England, there's no real point. Actually, in England people who go swimming are weird XD

Well I've been terribly lazy this summer, so I could probably use some more exercise again before showing off my body again.

Maybe it's just me, but there are a lot of cases where I only notice how fat someone actually is when we go swimming XD, so I guess it does matter? Certainly with a girl, it can make a lot of difference between clothes and bathing suit (one or two piece doesn't really matter though).

I don't have a problem with going shirtless.

The Dad shouldn't have forced him to take it off..

The best way to get a child over a fear is to be supportive, not be all angry and frustrated.

I prefer to wear a shirt, for the simple fact that I burn really easily, so I need to keep as much of my body covered as possible. XD

Thats good. If you get burned a lot you can get skin cancer and it can be very deadly. That is what got my mother.

Anyway, the story from the original post in this tread happened at an indoor pool so sun could not be a factor in the fear to take off the shirt. I dont understand why people think they must have a perfect body to go swimming without a shirt on or wearing a 2 peice bathing suit. Who cares if someone is extremely boney or has love handles and man boobs? Nobody does except for shallow people (and people should not care what shallow people think anyway).

We have advertising to blame for people not being comfortable in their own skin. The advertisers don't use plus size people for their ads or even normal size people. They use aneroxic looking models that they (the advertisers) think everyone should look like. Lots of adults and teens starve themselves to look like that aneroxic thinking then they will have the perfect body. Let's face it, lots of people are cruel towards overweight people and children. I don't blame them for not wanting to take their shirts off or wear a two-piece bathing suit for fear of being made fun off.

Think about it, when's the last time you saw an overweight/plus size woman crowned Miss Universe or Miss USA? When's the last time you saw an overweight/plus size man grace the cover of GQ magazine?

I'm not afraid to take off my shirt. I'm just a little apprehensive about my weight, but when you're having a good time, does it matter? Plus someone could look overweight and still have a decent amount of stamina. I know I do, and I have to agree. Plus it doesn't help when those overweight kids are made fun of in school or in the mall, etc.

Actually if you're like me, with a bird chest, a shirt can actually hide it.

But even with my bird chest, I take off my shirt anyways XD

Shirt on shirt off, just depends on how hot it is outside.

To go swimming? Shirt off, always.

I usually keep my top on.

I hate having my shirt off >.<

for a man, without any emergency,it's weird that he's not willing to shirt off to swim.
