Hello there,

Today I went for an interview in the biggest private bank in Egypt (CIB) despite the bad time I had yesterday and the shock of the death of my lovely cat. I went to the bank head office in the smart village and went through various processes (Application, Exam and Interview)

The HR Officer liked me somehow and told me he'd recommend me to 2 positions and she left me the complete freedom to choose one in case I got shortlisted. I noticed from her words that she initially sees me as a great fit for those vacancies.

The positions are:

1- Customer Service Representative
(Pretty much indoor/office typical work where I receive inquires, questions and meet with customers of the bank who seek opening new accounts, depositing money or assets, etc..)

2- Commercial Credit Investigator
(Responsible mainly for the apparaisal/approval of lending companies and corporates. I shall review their credit history and obtain the information needed to determine the creditworthiness of these businesses applying for credit. I shall also go for their HQs to investigate about the location, also checking fraud possibilities or any illegal record of these companies)

For the salary, they didn't negotiate with me yet and I honestly doesn't know which one generally pays more.

What do you recommend for me? The first job is less stressful, done on office and got no serious responsibilities. The second one requires active movement inside and outside the office, writing reports to the risk management department about my recommendation and investigation results, etc..

Thanks in advance fellow ones.

The only one who can decide which one fits you best is you.

Good luck to you!

I understand this Jazzy but I'd like to know what you are going to choose if you are in my shoes. Like what do you think is more respectful? more beneficial? etc..Any examples or references from friends or relatives would be appreciated.

There's no doubt the Commercial Credit Investigator is going to be busy and stressful but hopefully they pay well for the position. Since you are going to be investigating all kinds of different companies, you have a good chance of meeting a new opportunity. If one of the companies you are investigating has an opening more to your liking with an even higher pay scale, they already know you and chances are you would get the position. Hope that makes sense to you.

i'd take the first one for many reasons and i'll explain...

looks like the first one would be best to get your feet in the door and to get a better feel for the company, as time goes by there will be more opportunities to advance... once you're ready to advance then you can with your experience of being with the company already instead of jumping into a higher position with no experience whatsoever with-in the said company...

good luck... :)

Sounds convenient. Thank you for the suggestion Jazzy. Looking forward to more suggestions.

Your opinion is logical but this didn't miss me when I asked the interviewer at the end. She told me that you will receive proper training for continuous two months on how to do the job in the supposed way and you will be working and paid during the training period as well (But definitely not the same salary I'd get when I finish training)

And it is not a company by the company meaning, it is a huge bank.

i'd still take the "in office" position as to get more experience with-in the company...

seems like it would be better for you to get some time under your belt to see how it goes...

plus, when you do this you'll most likely understand what the other positions are and what those positions do, so you will have more input on what the higher positions are and what you have to do, to see if you want to go towards a particular higher position...

to jump onto a higher position into a company like that is more stressful even if it's a higher pay-grade...

but, if you're willing to put yourself out there and try the higher position then good luck... ;)

Thank you for your suggestion Freezy. I was told by the HR officer that both CS and Credit Investigation underlie two different departments (The CS is within the corporate sales department and the investigation thing is within the risk management department so I don't think that joining one will help me get to know the second better.)

But I will definitely consider both positions carefully. Guess I will have to research both of them further.

once in the door and have time under your belt i'm sure you could learn more into different positions and other department positions... ;)

i've done the same with a few companies i've worked for...

Really? That sounds great. Can you tell me a short note of your experience?

well, once i got into a company i first got really good at my job so i can impress my bosses, then i had time to learn and be friendly to people including other co-workers in other departments... once you get to know others and talk on a regular basis then you can ask them about they do and go on from there... if you talk to your manager or whatever on occasionally then you can learn from them if you ask the right questions... it's all about learning from others and be consistent... and sometimes your friend could help you switch departments or let you know if they have an opening... ;)

plus, for the most part, companies like to promote from with-in...

They recruited me in the Credit investigation department :)

Congratulations Madi!

Thanks Jazzy  I'm really scared though because this is my first ever job in banking career :beg: . I hope I will live up to their expectations and do well in the first training month. They take training as a serious decider whether they would create a long-term contract with me or just fire me lol :D

Congrats!

Don't stress too much now, you'll probably do just fine.
