Do you think euthanasia for people wanting to die should be legal?

Why or why not?

I think it should because its your life you should be in control of when it ends. However I worry about people who are in extreme pain or on a lot of meds, they might not be thinking properly and that might not be what they actually want.

I saw a programme about this narated by terry pratchett the author

he said, (as part of the programme), that once he couldn't do what he liked, (aqa writing), he didn't see the point

If somebody truly wants to die, they will.

My question is, if it is legalized, won't the politicians want to somehow wring money out of those doing it? Such as with a death permit fee? Or a tax on the pharmaceuticals so used?

Sounds about right.

Absolutely. The fact that in so many places we still can't choose to peacefully end our lives with the help of licensed professionals is absolutely ridiculous and downright inhumane.

I support euthanasia. Suicide is illegal and yet it's impossible to punish a person who took their own life. So rather than illegalize it, they should hire someone in the medical field for those people who want to peacefully die in a less violent way.

I would only support it if it also meant WAY more resources available to those struggling with the idea. we would really need to make sure we have done everything we possibly can do to help them no matter their reasoning for wanting to end it all. at the end of the day it is that individual's decision, but still, I believe we should feel obligated to help one another out in the short time we have here and exhaust all options the way we do in our own situations.

Yes. We don't let animals suffer so why should humans be different?

Where I live, euthanasia is legal, and I think that's a good thing. People need their file approved, which can be too much administration, but at least we have a process for it. My mother had cancer and it was terminal. When she was ready for euthanasia, she didn't qualify anymore because the administration would take longer than she had to live, so she went into palliative care. But, it shouldn't be like that. People with an incurable disease should be able to request for it at any given time.

People who do the administration beforehand "I want it in case condition X, Y or Z is met (like, having dementia, living like a plant, ...)" should get it when that condition is met, at a simple request of either them or their close relatives they appointed.

For psychological "diseases", I'm a bit hesitant. I've heard of a case, I believe it was in the Netherlands, where someone was granted the right to euthanasia but there was nothing physically wrong, just depression, and she was just a teenager. In cases like that, I'd be very hesitant to say, yes, you should let them. Certainly not without some screening & having done therapy.

So basically, yes for physical suffering or things that won't go away like dementia, but I'm hesitant for psychological suffering, not an absolute no there, but, they should first try other options at the very least.

Absolutely it should be legal, even in cases where a young adults want to end their life. We live in a cruel, fucked up society where we do everything in our power to stop someone from committing suicide at the time, but after it passes we shrug our shoulders and forget about them. If someone is unhappy/depressed with life, "suck it up. We all have to go through it. If I have to be here, so do you." This angers me to no extent. No one HAS to be here, no one HAS to be alive. We didn't ask to be brought into this world, but as an adult, we have every goddamn right to make the decision of leaving it.

The push against assisted/legal suicide is weird. It's as if people think "if suicide is legal, literally everyone will do it!" Like..no, you idiots, that's not what will happen.

In some cases this should be allowed. But not in all.

If someone is suffering, there should be the option to put them out of their misery.

Here in Britain, the Government is currently debating a bill to legalise it. There are already more for than against it.
