Should sex education be taught in schools?

Definitely. Children and teenagers should be educated on the dangers of underage sex and premarital sex. That way they can be responsible for their actions.

I think it should be too. I had to take it when I was in school.

A lot of parents feel uncomfortable talking to their kids about those sorts of things and wont ever address it.

The conservative families might not like their kids being taught about contraceptives, because that might be a waste of babies. Or something. Not every ejaculation deserves a name. But yeah, my parents gave me the sex talk when I was 6, so it was good that I learned it again, and 'properly' and unbiased at school. Besides, my parents never told me about condoms, they just straight out said, DON'T DO IT.

Absolutely!

I think it should be taught in schools. I was taught it in school when I was 11. It turned out that half the stuff I knew before was rubbish

It should be taught in schools ONLY if it is being taught in conjunction with the children's parents. Far too often parents expect the school to do their parenting for them and in my mind, that is NEVER ok. School is to teach your kids the basics they need to make it in the real world. It is not meant to replace good, old-fashioned PARENTING. And it is detrimental to the child if it is.

Uh, what? I run a conservative family and we are ALL for contraception. When you have a promiscuous 18 year old girl under your roof, you ALWAYS have contraception easily available to her. She's going to go out and spread her legs anyway; we make sure we can provide at least the minimum amount of protection for her.[/quote]

Exactly. Just because you are a conservative family doesn't mean anything. I'm in a conservative family, and I drink. They hardly know about it. Teenagers will do things, regardless of what parents say. It's a fact. But if the parents know something's up, they should be more supporting contraceptives than the alternative; acting like it isn't happening.

I believe parents SHOULD have the say towards sex ed. If a parent feels it's in the child's best interest to learn it from the parents, or some other source, so be it. Have a permission slip. It's that easy. No need to get rid of it completely for one or two people in a hundred. Reality is, most parents are happy for sex ed. It's less on their part they have to teach. In my grade 9 class, want to know how many kids didn't take sex ed? 0/35. Everyone took it. Just because people are showing contraceptives does not mean they are supporting it. The main message they taught us was abstinence. Teachers know, just as well as parents should, that kids do fool around, and if and when they do, it's good to know they at least have the knowledge to do it responsibly.

Okay fair enough, families who believe that sex is for reproduction only.

Of course it should, and the ones that need to go are the ones who are sitting their breastfeeding, and the two doing 'it' behind the bush.

As long as the parents give consent for their child to take the course then I have no problem with it, but it shouldn't be required on students or parents who don't want it.

I'm not sure what you mean by this? You referring to my last post? Would you mind clearing this up?

I think even the goodie two-shoes should have the knowledge of what's out there too, because a time will come, and they still will need to know about many different things.

Everyone should get sex ed, but they should wait until the students are old enough to understand it. I had to take sex ed in grade four from the creepiest old guy ever. it was pretty freaky... I was like 10 years old. wait until kids are in grade 7 at least!

Sex education should definitely be taught, I would even make it mandatory, and they should be required to teach about contraceptives. There is no logical reason to not teach about contraceptives.

Abstinence only education causes teen pregnancy rates to go up. If the kids are gonna do it, they might as well not have a kid they can't support.

Yes, Children should be taught about safe sex etc.

It is, I learned it in health class.
