The U.S. military will open combat positions, including those in elite commando units, to female soldiers. The Pentagon says it will not change its physical standards and that the policy may take years to implement. Still, there has been a mixed reaction to this decision.

I decided to conduct this poll to see where we each stand on this issue.

As a woman, and as someone who is considering a military career, I'm all for it. Rather than separate men and women, the only segregation in the military should be based on individual capabilities. If a woman can carry full pack, ammo, and equipment, and fight effectively, she should be allowed to do so. If she wishes to work in the medical corps or in a non-combatant role, that's fine too. I don't feel it will harm readiness standards at all - that just comes across as a (somewhat veiled) sexist remark. Standards should be the same for both men and women in combat.

Let's see... Yes, No, Yes.

If they wanna go to war, it's none of my business. (As long as we aren't being invaded

Yes if they want to , but why would they want to join in on the maddness of men??

if they do though they should have the same standards.

Man or Woman doesn't matter the credentials need to be placed on ability. Since Men and Women are wired differently, Men more hunters and providers and women more nurturing and thinkers (in an overall sense). Can women be as effective at killing people without endangering themselves?

Yes, women should be allowed to serve in combat.

We've come too far as a nation to do otherwise. Women can do just as much as men.

No, this will not military readiness.

Why would it? Women can be trained just like men can.

Yes, I agree that the Pentagon should not lower standards for women.

Women want to be equal to men, right? Isn't that what the whole 19-teens was about? Lowering standards for them is more of an insult to them, saying they are inferior, than anything. You're not protecting them by doing that.
