What is the least rude way of telling somebody to shut up?

Hmm, I am not entirely sure this would apply however, when I am dealing with a customer on the phone that has went off and is talking about things that aren't even relevant anymore I tell them that I need to get going to a meeting.

Jazzy, I read your OP when I first logged in and I've been thinking hard, trying to come up with a kind way to tell someone to shut up. I haven't thought of one yet, but I did come up with 4 new ways to rudely tell someone to shut up!

There is a bazillion ways to rudely tell someone to shut up it is probably the easiest thing to do.

I think trying to find a way out of the conversation if you desperately want them to shut up in the least rude way to get your point across. For example, I have some things to do; could we finish this conversation later; I've got a headache, would you mind being quiet, etc.

True, if it isn't at your house you can always use the excuse, "I have to get some chores done around the house"
