Have you ever shutdown a forum or other website? If so, what were your reasons for it?

I have a time or two. My first forum I eventually shut down to it gradually dying out. The forum I was currently running, was recently shut down after a conversation between myself and Jay over the fact that the forum had been dealing with weeks of unfortunate inactivity.

[font=tahoma, geneva, sans-serif]That's sad and I hope both you and Jay thought long and hard before you shut it down. All forums go through periods of inactivity.

Yeah we talked about it for a good bit. I was the one to actually bring it up. And it'd been going through it for several weeks.

Absolutely. When forums interfere with my personal life, it's time to quit. I have to remember; blogging/forums/etc is a hobby, not a lifestyle. Still have to put my real life ahead of forums I create.

I have shut down 3. All 3 times because my personal life got too busy..

Loss of activity. It's hard to do, but at times it's really the only option.

A million times, I closed one website over because I wasn't ready to run it, I merged with another website and, I'm not going to list them all, ugh.

I've only shut down my forum twice temporarily, due to stress with the nonsense I had to put up with in the forum (and that was during 2009). Wasn't the smart thing to do really...

If you close it for even a week, you lose potential new members, and you lose regulars.
