Word is spreading online this afternoon (Aug. 26) that former WCW and WWE star Sid Eudy has died. The man who won the then-WWF belt as Sycho Sid, and the WCW World title as Sid Vicious, was 63 years old.

His son Gunnar posted the sad news on his Facebook page, saying that his father lost his battle with cancer: In Memory of My Father, Sid Eudy

Dear friends and family,

I am deeply saddened to share that my father, Sid Eudy, has passed away after battling cancer for several years. He was a man of strength, kindness, and love, and his presence will be greatly missed.

We appreciate your thoughts and prayers as we grieve this loss. Details for a memorial service will be shared soon. Thank you for your support.

Sincerely, Gunnar Eudy

Now this one stings because I was a huge Sid fan towards the end of his WCW run. His BS undefeated streak as US champ was the stuff of legend and finally getting a decent world title run was the benchmark of his career. He should have beaten Hogan at Wrestlemania 8 too. Rule the world in heaven, big man.

Three moments will always be etched in my mind regarding Sid....(1) the "I have half a brain..." promo he did in WCW; scripted by Vince Russo but Sid carried it off like a consummate professional, (2) the promo where he pretty much caused Jim Cornette to have a coronary when Shawn Michaels introduced him as part of his team (Cornette - They've traded in the gas chamber for the electric chair!)...

The best remembrance was from the Shockmaster episode....per the Tropes,
The infamous Shockmaster incident. While Sid was able to stay in character on camera, the mic caught him muttering "I told ya! Oh God..." when Shockmaster did his bumble out of the wall. Why? According to Stevie Ray, Sid had earlier noticed Dusty Rhodes nail a 2x4 shin high on the breakable wall, and tried to get him and the rest of the crew to remove the damn thing as it would lead only to Ottman's embarrassment, but Sid's pleas fell on deaf ears. Lo and behold, he was right.
The fact that he stayed in character during that was epic...
