Simpsons: Key Character Dies In New Series

A major character on The Simpsons will be killed off this season, an executive on the long-running cartoon has revealed.

It is 14 years since the last death on the show - Ned Flanders' wife Maude.

The show's 25th series began airing in the US over the weekend and executive producer Al Jean has confirmed that a household name is set to die soon.

Speaking to the Canada Sun Times newspaper he said: "I'll give you a clue that the actor playing the character won an Emmy for playing that character, but I won't say who it is."

However, his comment does little to narrow down the field, as most of the major characters' artists have been recognised during the show's lengthy run.

Sky Bet ranks Sideshow Bob - voiced by Kelsey Grammer - as the favourite for the chop at 7/2.

The villain is followed by Grampa Simpson at 4/1 and Krusty the Clown at 6/1.

It has also been confirmed that the final episode of the season will be a crossover with Futurama.

I could see it happening to Sideshow Bob since last I knew he and Bart had issues with one another. Then again its been a long while since I've watched the show. I do wish though they had aged the characters since they've all practically been the same for years.

I'd like it to be Krusty the Clown. Never did like him and don't see the point of him being on the show, other than to offer a few laughs to bart and lisa.

I haven't seen The Simpsons (new episodes, at least) for some time. However, judging from the fact that the voice actor for Bart's teacher Edna died not long ago, I'd place bets on it being her.

I think that was an unrelated event. But who knows.
