...to borrow Laura Ingraham's words, "Morrissey....shut up & sing!"
(Bristol Post) SINGER Morrissey has made an online attack on Glastonbury Festival and its founder, Michael Eavis. The former frontman of The Smiths and animal rights activist wrote a lengthy message on a blog for fans, titled Glastonbury Festival is not animal friendly, accusing dairy farmer Mr Eavis of being an "animal hater".
He also claimed Mr Eavis censored a video due to be played as a backdrop during a performance of his song Meat is Murder during Morrissey's 2011 performance at the festival.
Writing an article of more than 1,300 words on fan website True To You, which is his chosen outlet for official statements, the singer claimed dairy farming caused "insane environmental damage" and was worse than rearing animals for meat.
He went on to personally criticise 79-year-old Mr Eavis, who he dubbed "the gentlemanly God of Glastonbury", as someone who "appears to be one of those people who love dead animals, yet hate live ones".
Festival organisers declined to comment on Morrissey's statement, which can be read in full here.
Morrissey is well-known for his stance on animal rights, once leaving the stage during a performance at a US festival because of the smell from a burger van and donating a £10,000 fee paid when one of his songs was used on a Gordon Ramsey TV show to an anti-foie gras campaign.
He is also renowned for outspoken statements on the monarchy, fellow performers including Madonna and Elton John, Margaret Thatcher and both British and American politics, most recently declaring that he liked Nigel Farage and had "nearly" voted for UKIP.
