Are you one of those people who prefer larger dogs? Do you know someone who has told you that they prefer larger dogs because small dogs are yappy and snappy? Whether you are a large-dog person or a small-dog person, one thing we all would agree on is that a larger percentage of small dogs tend to have a different type of temperament than medium and large dogs. Small dogs have earned the reputation of being yappy, snappy, jealous, protective, wary of strangers and not the greatest child companions and, unfortunately, it has become widely accepted. Similar to the myth that Pit Bulls are all vicious fighting dogs.

More in this article about small dogs vs others: http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/articles/smalltoydogs.htm

So what is your preference?

What type of dog do you like best?

Small, medium or large sized dogs?

Why?

Small dogs have earned the reputation of being yappy, snappy, jealous, protective, wary of strangers and not the greatest child companions and, unfortunately, it has become widely accepted.

Don't you just love how they make this statement about ALL small dogs? Makes me want to laugh. I have two Miniature Pinschers. One is 6 lbs and the other is 8 lbs. They have both been to obedience and social training classes. Neither one of them is yappy, snappy, jealous, protective or wary of strangers. They both love attention they get from the children that visit my house. The key here is the word training. They also are litter box trained which is great in the Winter where it's not possible to walk them in snow.

I've also had large dogs: Doberman Pinscher, German Shepherd and a Greyhound. Believe me, all of them were protective and wary of strangers. Even though they all went through the same training as my small dogs, the breeds I had are all known to be protective of their owner.

So, you tell me which is better?

Your statement leads me to believe that it depends on the dog, not the stereotype.. But I've always believed that. :P
