Snoop Dog's list

You're really amazed by this? In fact I'm quite sure Snoop Dogg/Lion, could have been smoking weed when he composed this list.

What point does this make?

Anyone who knows the first thing about Snoop Dogg/Lion knows this is his usual style and nothing unusual (the profanities included).Smoke Weed Everyday, Gin and Juice - Even those in the rap industry don't know him for much more than a stoner - extending from that, an entertainer. To the extent that I question the motives of someone would even reference Snoop Dogg/Lion's views in any kind serious political discussion.

But I digress.

What would you like to debate in this thread?

We could discuss how such use of the language benefits his community.

I believe how Snoop Dogg/Lion articulated his opinions cannot even hold true for the black community in its entirety. Certainly within some circles in the African-American/Hispanic community (as Smooth said, there exists a double standard with regards to racial politics). Even in the same hemisphere, the Caribbean islands, for example, that vernacular was very foreign before American influence.

And I think it's a culture-bound thing. The identity of black people in this country is conceptualized differently than those places. I don't really see what Snoop Dogg/Lion said as benefiting the black community to any extent. In fact, it may even serve to reinforce the stereotypical view of black culture as a culture of ignorance.

FD, I think you may have misunderstood my intent here. I was really only wondering what your meaning was for posting what you did. I simply didn't get where you were going, that's all.

Thanks for clarifying for me.

There was some misunderstanding on my part. I apologize for that.

No problem!

It's quite understandable, considering the fact that there isn't a whole lot you and I see eye to eye on!

That is quite true. I still retain a great deal of respect for you, nonetheless.

How revolting.

And I am SO tired of having to tell these morons people that BO IS NOT BLACK!!!! To base your vote on skin color in the first place is idiotic, at the very best.

I love how it's ok for back people to use the word n-word, but it's not ok for white people to do the same.

i've been posting the chris rock schtick about black people vs niggahz for years into this sort of a conversation and it turns out there's one that's slightly different addressing this issue. my experience has been that in some black communities, the word is rarely, if ever used and almost exclusively describing somebody being extremely stupid or criminal if it is used. these sorts of people usually get hostile if a non-black uses the word. in others, the people will call each other n-word all the time and if race relations are good in the community, it will be ok for non-blacks in the community to use the term.

in del valle, texas, just outside austin, there's a small neighborhood that grew from a freedman's land holding called johnson city. all the streets are named after his kids and about 75% of the current population is directly descended from him. several of his grandchildren are still alive. when they were first getting to know me, they were calling me white boy. when i called one of them on it and said that if he didn't call me a white boy, i wouldn't call him a n-word, his response was to go ahead and call him a n-word because that's what he is.
