Staying up late at night using social media such as Facebook and Twitter, she told Australian media, my have contributed to the 100m backstroke favourite coming up short.

The silver medallist wept uncontrollably after her race as she was caught in a post-race twirl of emotions, later claiming she became a victim of a loss of focus.

I don't know, I just felt like I didn't really get off social media and get into my own head, she said.

I guess the words self control were never explained to her.

I lost, but it's everyone's fault but mine. Facebook grabbed me, slapped me about the face and forced me to sit in front of it.

Is what she meant to say.
