Does social media make you in general happier or sadder?

If sadder, why do you keep participating in it?

It definitely has been upsetting me lately. The only reason why I have Facebook is to keep in contact with my family. I'll scroll past things I don't like, but sometimes it can be hard. I much prefer forums over anything else these days.

It used to make me a lot sadder, by not carefully following the non-toxic accounts, my stupid ex :verymad: but now that I've started over, following then-toxic people, muting/blocking certain words, topics, and people, not looking up my ex, social media has brought me some joy

It doesn't make me feel either, I just have it to share with the family on the west coast, other than that this forum is the most social I get online.

Sometimes I think its cool when I post a story and it gets like 50 views or if I post a picture and it gets like 30 likes (which is a lot for me), but in the end I don't really care either way. I just treat them like digital photo albums so the likes and views are pointless. When you post about your life too much then people who follow you (on my personal accounts its co-workers, friends and family) will ask you about stuff you did or get jealous you didn't invite them. Sometimes I just want to be able to answer the question "How have you been?" with "good" and "What have you been up to?" with "nothing much" :P

That is pretty much what I use facebook for, it is a digital photo album for me. Also sometimes short conversations are the best.
