What musical instrument sounds best when played solo?

:guitar: :drums:

Practically anything stringed. Violin, viola, guitar, cello, etc. They all stand out solo.

I played the flute for a few years in high school so I have a soft spot for that instrument. I also love a good trumpet. Saxophone is nice too.

Strings, piano, organ, bagpipes.

Other instruments like brass and woodwinds can do it but some, like clarinet (my instrument of choice) feel like they need an accompaniment to my ears. But solo clarinet, sax, flute with a band or orchestra behind them? Sure.
