On my forum I always get tons of spam. Even with heavy anti piracy mods. Although lately it has slowed down not sure why. But anyhow it has always been pretty bad. Which is why I like SMF. They have a feature in 2.0 version to make it so the posts will never show until I approve it. Then I just delete the spam before anyone ever will ever see it and problem solved.

But some have complained they don't like it because it is to restricting. Making people wait to have their posts show up. But I don't have the time or the money to hire staff to moderate all the spam.

So have any of you been on a forum that had moderator approval for posts before and was it annoying?? Or if not what are other good ways to stop spam??

You don't have to pay staff at all. Most staff members enjoy helping out on forums, and will gladly help you rid of spam for nothing at all. Yes, it is hard to rid of spam, but having moderation queue on ticks people off even more than having a bunch of spam posts, probably. You could still hire staff, but they don't have to be paid. Not everyone pays their staff members. I don't.

A good way to stop spam is to hire more staff, and just watch it and try to stop it in it's tracks. I know on promotion forums, you can't have Mod Queue on when you request a package, otherwise your package gets delayed by several days because they have to wait for their posts to be approved, and if they wait too long, your package will normally be denied, no questions asked. Just hire more staff to look after the forum with you and for you if you have to be away.

Well I figured out how remove it for certain members. Go back to my site and try posting again. It will not need approval this time.

We have been getting one or two here a day lately. Thats when I was using the reCaptcha thing. I just switched it to the question/answer method and it seems to have been fighting them off.
