Do you know anyone that have spiders as pets? Could you ever have a spider for a pet? My spouse's uncle used to have a pet tarantula, though I think it died not too long ago. I absolutely hate spiders, they freak me out so I could never have one as a pet. Let alone I don't understand how anyone can have one for a pet. :P Any time there's a spider in my house it gets killed or sucked up in the vacuum cleaner. xD

If someone I knew had a spider as a pet, I would not know them anymore. I would NEVER EVER have one as a pet. Thinking about it makes me sick.

Thankfully no and oh hell no would I ever have 1 as a pet

I have 3 tarantulas as pets. They're all female. Females live up to 15 years. I have a curly hair, a stripe knee, and a blue neon. I never get them out. You're really not supposed to handle them because it puts a lot of stess on the tarantula.

My girlfriend and I are still thinking about starting a blue baboon communal.

Never had any desire to have a tarantula. I had a friend that had one and it creeped me out. I only held it once and I didn't enjoy it.

Literally had to scroll over this picture and as I'm typing this I got my hand covering the picture.

Toooo WEIRD! :p

I thought maybe you guys were going to start collecting exotic monkeys.

It's just me being silly lol. *Looking around my house now*
I am thankful you got him to put it behind a spoiler!

They like dark places. I found information online that they suggest that you keep them in a dark place like the closet. More light means more hiding. Every time I open the closet door, they're out moving around, but as soon as they see the light one of them starts heading into her burrow.

I never had one, but they do seem to make great low-maintenance pets.

Sure, this is an article from Sept 2014 so further research may have been conducted. Nevertheless, this may be an interesting read: https://www.theguardian.com/environ...ethal-hunters-how-dangerous-household-spiders
First, a key fact: all spiders are venomous. That’s how they catch their insect prey, by injecting venom down hollow fangs into their struggling victims. But they don’t really bite humans. We are much too big and taste foul.
Of Britain’s 600 different spider species, just half-a-dozen can open their mouths wide enough, and have fangs long enough to deliver a venomous nip. Despite tabloid horror headlines, it feels like a wasp sting. Even a mild cat scratch can become infected and ooze pus. Deaths from spider bites still hover around the zero mark.
Prior to this thread, I never was aware that one would dare to keep spiders as pets, and always assumed that spiders may bite humans badly. Now I know I shouldn't be so fearful.

Had you not created this thread, I would not have done my research @Ravenfreak , so thank you for creating this thread :)

That's a tad bit harsh lol. Wow

Ahh yay, it's good to know that :D

:D

I would never house a deadly spider in my home. In Missouri we already have a common issue with the Brown Recluse Spider and those really will put you in the hospital. Some people have a major allergic reaction to them. However, most Tarantula's have very weak venom and they pose little threat.

Yeah mate, I don't think anyone would :p

Ah I didn't know that, thanks for sharing!
Are they generally poisonous, or are they only poisonous to those allergies to them? Sorry, not sure I understood or not, is all.

You'd be surprised. Some people house deadly snakes in their home and keep them as pets.
Oh right, in a cage, I assume?
Who'd want a snake as a pet anyways? Lol yuck

@Wessel I edited my above post btw. Also I don't believe I can multi-quote when editing my posts? It's annoying, and I don't want to create work for you to keep merging my posts.

Yeah, they're very venomous. I actually had a small colony of them behind my bed once and I had to clean that mess up. I was lucky that I didn't get bit.

Yes. Can't have them wondering around in the house.

I know plenty of women that like ball pythons. My girlfriend especially has 2 ball pythons, one boa, and a some kind of king snake. She used to have more but got rid of them because the tanks were taking up too much room.

No thanks, have enough 'fun' trying not to get stung by scorpions each night. Caught 2 last night...eww...

About 15 years ago, I used to have an emperor scorpion for a month before I decided to get rid of it. I was moving out of my apartment and I really couldn't bring it with me so I took it back to the pet store where I bought it. I've had no desire to get another one since.
