I've just found this whilst deleating stuff... Just thought I'd share it.

A pregnant woman struggled with her shopping bags. No one came to help her. She struggled to the top of her street. She got to her front door and looked in her bag for her house key, but they were nowhere to be found. She sighed. Nothing seemed to be going her way today. Firstly her bank card wouldn’t let her draw money out, so she had spent an hour in the bank trying to sort out her card. After that, her car broke down at the side of the road and it was going to cost hundreds to get it fixed. Now this.

She walked round the back of the street. Into the dirty, rubbish strewn back alley. There were black bin bags strewn all over the place, as rats scattered from the sound of her footsteps. She sidestepped dog muck, crisp packets, and all sorts of rubbish to get to her back gate.

She was about to reach over the fence to open it when she saw a flurry of movement. Quick footsteps echoed through the dark alley. A tall figure materializing out of the shadows. A glint of silver amongst black. Then nothing.

The next morning the dispatcher in the Durham police centre was reading the daily newspaper. There was an article about the fire in the Kings Head hotel in Darlington. She was halfway through it when a 911 call came through. She dashed to the phone, snatched it up and answered it.

“This is Durham Police, how may I help you?” She said automatically as this was something that she had memorized, during many years work as a dispatcher.

“P-p-please help. There’s a body in the back alley. She’s all bloody and....” The man on the other end dissolved into frightened tears.

“Calm down sir. Can you tell me the location of the body and we will send a unit right away.” The dispatcher said soothingly. The man stopped crying long enough to tell her the address. She jotted it down and told the man to go back inside his house until the police arrived. She was about to call a unit, when Detective Chief Inspector Nathan Hawes walked in.

I liked that and are you going to continue?

I've hit a wall with the description of DCI Hawes. Once I get him online then I'll get more
