Starting to get really pissed off with our singer

On the one hand I do understand his point... BUT I am severly dyslexic and it takes me alot longer to learn the amount of songs that we play.. Now he just expects me to learn ALL the songs in a week!



This is the email I just got.



there is a new rule. we not gonna have any notes on stage from now on. That means, you have the weekend to learn the songs and then so on Monday and then on we having no notes at practise or gigs.



its the only way you are gonna learn the songs.



plus on monday we are going to just go through a few songs that we need to then spend quite a bit of time showing you bass lines, runs and techniques.



you can still obviously have you notes for practising at home but no more at practises or gigs.



Sunday was rubbish when we had to pause before songs to find the chords. We been playing these songs for a long time now and should now them by now. If we have notes on stage, never gonna learn them.





My use of paper on stage is being reduced at every gig... Now he just throws this on me... In fear of saying something that I regret I have to just shut my mouth and deal with it... Or he's likely to kick me out.

Ohh and just another thing, I dont stand, read and play... The chords where there if I got lost on a song... Which happened on sunday :/



If that is going to happen again and I have no notes at all, I'm screwed.

Have decided, If he uses lyrics on Monday at practise, Im leaving the band.

The band should be in it to have fun, and you go from there. If it gets big, it does, if not, you can say you had fun, even though it didn't go anywhere. You don't want it to go no where and then end up saying you had no fun. Now, you should learn your part, but this last minute thing is a bit much, so try talking to them. If he's going to kick you out, then so be it. But if you're really serious about the band and know if he'll give you more time to figure out your part, then just tell him you need more time, but you're serious about learning them. Maybe he'll understand, maybe he won't, but it's stupid to argue and get stressed out about something that's suppose to be fun and exciting.

What do the other members of the band think of this?

^ No idea. I havent spoken to them since the last gig. We didnt have practise last week.



I've spoken to mum and shes advised me... Now i've calmed down alot, Not to quit because that may be what they want!



I will practise even more than I already do and work without the notes, If they arent going to show me fills etc on the bass then I will get a bass tutor..



I only started playing bass last year, this is the first band Ive ever been in. I love playing live and I love the music we make and cover. So my commitment to the band is not an issue.



However if they are still nit-picking then I will leave.

No need to stay if you're not having fun and enjoying yourself. Try to practice, but don't let it ruin your will to play.

I do have fun, I just dont understand why Neil is being such a moron

No because 1. my notes are all in order, only takes a second for me to change to the next song if I need to, And 2 he was the one faffing around with his lyrics!!



And I also dont think it will be quicker for me to learn like that. I only have to get lost once and ive screwed the whole song up.

Sounds to me like he's trying to point fingers at others for his screw up. He also sounds like a control freak to me. You and the other band members should all sit down with him and clear the air because the band is really good.

 

[Raven]

Yea, will discuss the issues on Monday at band practise.

Just don't let it bother you all weekend.

Nah I wont. Got mates coming over tomorrow.
