Have you ever been on a forum where the admins were so completely obsessed with post counts?

Perhaps they go to extremes such as sending out mass emails, personal emails, or PM's on the forum demanding the you to become more active and post more.

Maybe they threaten you, like you must make X amount of posts per month to avoid your account being deleted?

Anyways, do stat obsessed forum owners put you off?

Yeah they bug me. I would rather have real members with real discussions on real subjects then some random spammer, or baby posting all over the forum..

I know forums that do postathons sometimes. They start out kinda fun but then people just post all sorts of random rubbish and it all seems a bit silly. I'd rather see someone post cause they have something to say, then cause they want to win some competition.

I see it a lot on the Zathyus network and it's annoying. From post packages which usually get you a lot of junk posts to contests that encourage fast posting at all costs even if it means making endless crappy posts just to get the number up to win something.

Then you have the type who constantly post stats updates into ad topics as if anyone not already a member remotely cares( they don't).

Obsessing over stats can ruin a board when you start sacrificing the things that matter just for those numbers at the bottom.

Then you got the type who close a board a month after it opens simply because they don't like how many posts the board was getting as there expectations were probably set too high if anything.

I care about my stats but I don't go to desparate measures to get extra posts. I think I've sent out a mass email once since I started CC and never send mass PM's.

Yeah that's annoying.

Isn't it funny how when you are told to do something, you dont want to do it, even if you were going to before you felt forced into it

I have a ton of spare time at the moment too but I resent feeling that I HAVE to do something.

Whilst im not obsessed by stats, i do like them. I have never come across an obsessed admin.

Yes, Yes, and YES! I'm guilty of that too, because that's how I used to be when I started out. But then I go on other forums and see administrators who think they can post stats daily and it just drives me insane. In fact, if they go as far as to threaten to delete my account if I don't post more, then they are definetly not worth my time in which I could be spending elsewhere. In fact, if I see someone who is that obsessed with forum stats, I just think, heck, I'm just going to go somewhere else if you're going to keep threatening me to post. This forum is not worth my time. In fact, I see forums like that and it makes me wonder if that's the only reason that these people created a forum to begin with, was so that they could see their stats go up.

Yeah, I took a break from the Zathyus Network and still, the same stuff went on. That's only because I was naieve and somehow ended up caught in this little corner of the network. Not everyone apart of the network is stats crazy. You just have to find non-hyped places.

Stat's do matter whether you like it or not, but to a certain extent. I wouldn't fret if my forum is slowing down a bit..shyt happens. Try to do something to make it better.

I've never had an admin add me to MSN to encourage me to post but if it did happen, they would find themselves blocked pronto! That's a real insult IMO, it's like they only wanna know you cause you post on their forum.

It's a hobby or a passtime, not a job!!

This forum has surpassed any goals I set for it so whatever stats we have now are just gravy. I am not really concerned about the numbers, all I care about is having someone here to talk to. :P

I find those who make threats regarding inactivity to be hilarious as if they have nothing to do with your inactivity as it's all on you to fix it. Perhaps the problem is your forum is just that boring or simply that they don't have a real interest in it and any threats you make shall fall on deaf ears.

If someone wants to be active then they will be and if they don't then they won't. threatening someone with account deletion will ensure no one ever becomes active again as no one is going to actually become active because they have been threatened as they are more likely to give you shit for it then anything else.

I encounter it from time to time. None of the threats are really that bad, though. Delete my account? Yeah ok, you'll lose whatever posts I intended to make, good going. Generally, the administrators who do such a thing are idiotic toolbags and forums the same as theirs are a dime a dozen.

And if you truly want my activity... you need to provide content I care about. e.g I don't post in forum games because I find them pretty stupid. If your forum games section has 50 threads, but the rest of your categories have a tenth of that, I'm not going to bother.

Back when I considered joining a new forum every once in awhile I good idea, I came across one who, in their "user agreement" had a "suggested minimum number of daily posts" to remain a "member in good standing".

I didn't join.

And if I remembered the name of the forum correctly, just now when I went to check on it, it isn't there any more.

Funny that.

:!: They actually put that in their user agreement? Why would anyone want to join a forum where they are required to post a daily minimum amount? I wonder what happens if you stop posting there, They delete your account or ban you?
