I don't like simple 'bumps' - I like to add a bit of colour every now and then with a design-y type thing. Doesn't always look good, but at least I try!

The goal is to get new members. If you advert thread is short, boring and full of statistic bumps, chances are you will have less people interested in joining.

Ehh, personally I always look at the activity of a board before joining it so I don't really mind.
