BISMARCK, N.D. – Governor Jack Dalrymple today proclaimed a statewide winter storm emergency based on a severe winter storm impacting North Dakota. The storm began Wed., Dec. 29 and is expected to continue into Sat., Jan. 1.

The storm system has produced freezing rain, ice, heavy snow accumulations and high winds in excess of 45 miles per hour, causing blizzard conditions, particularly in South Central and Southeastern North Dakota.

The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning from South Central North Dakota through the Red River Valley, and the state Department of Transportation has issued widespread travel advisories and road closures.

Dalrymple today ordered the utilization of the North Dakota State Emergency Operations Plan which makes available state resources including the National Guard for emergency assistance.
