I was looking at new forums that are popping up and when I visit them, I noticed they are copying and pasting topics from Off Topix. Not sure if this should be taken as a compliment or be mad as hell that's it's happening.

What are your thoughts on this?

That's just lame in my eyes, lack of originality.
They start of a forum but have no inspiration...so let us steal other topics from better boards.

Yep great idea :banghead:

I have no problems with that. If people want to do it, just let them I guess. Though I'm not one of them, lol.

I think taking an idea that works or is good is okay, but copy+pasting a topic.. I'm not too fond of that idea.

As a regular forum goer, why would you want to have the same discussion on multiple boards over and over again? These other forums should be thinking of different conversation topics, to give people a reason to want to post there.

When your topic is quoting a news article in full or part well you can't exactly hold claim to them "stealing" topics. Truth be told, it's not exactly possible to not steal from someone even if you didn't even intend to as it's quite easy to have rewritten a topic that someone else happen to have on their board especially for a general chat board. If your topic was about something unique to you then you might have room to truly complain to any serious degree but otherwise I wouldn't bother. They can copy the op but you can't copy the rest and that's where the community truly shines in how unique it is from elsewhere.

Hit the nail on the head there I think. It's like what they say about there only being 7 stories in the world.

I do have a general discussion thread and a weather thread just because every forum seems to have one, but I try to make original topics as well.

Sorry for any confusion in my OP. The topics being 'stolen' are original and not news topics. A good example would be this one. It was copied and pasted in its original form (not rewritten) and even the topic title is the same. In my opinion, this constitutes plagiarism.

I thought this is supposed to be creative commons or freedom of the press. Besides, I think its fine to borrow new thread ideas, but don't steal it without permission.

I think it's wrong to copy other people's topics. If I found out that somebody was doing that on another forum with topics that our members made here, then I would definitely let those members know.

As far as it being their own topics, I don't have a problem with that. People can do what they want with their own topics. I've taken recent topics that I've made on certain forums and posted them elsewhere. Sometimes people's topics don't get responded to, so they put them on other forums to see if anyone with the same interests will post in their thread's to talk about them.

I really don't like to talk about the same topic on more than one forum. It becomes old very fast. Off Topix is where I am mostly. This place has everything, I love it, I love the members, and this place is home.

I remember cross-posting my own topics back in the QX Community days, there was another GD forum where I posted them too. But those were topics made on my own. Not by anyone else.

I do it all the time. I dont post the members words but if they leave a link of a news article I like I will and do share them on other forums.
