They say “sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me”.

Do you agree or disagree and why?

It's one of those kinds of discussions that you can neither agree with or disagree with. Words and actions effect different people. Especially young children and teenagers. It depends on the person mainly. Some people tolerate it, others commit suicide, and others take guns to school and kill X amount of students because they were bullied. Bullying sometimes equals school shootings because some kids don't know when to shut up and quit. Does that justify it? No. Is that the reality of it? Yes.

Words only have power to hurt you IF you give them, and whoever says them, the power to hurt you.

If you surrender your own emotional wellbeing to others, then you willingly become the victim.

If you do not, the words may sting, but they cannot bite.

This is true. My daughter is friends with this girl who sometimes says mean things to her and about her to her other friends. I guess there's a lot of reference to the film "Mean Girls" and a lot of women have said that it's true as far as school goes. Girls are mean to each other. I told her not to let it bother her and that her "friend" isn't really her friend if she's going to do that. Because friends don't do that to each other. I also told her that none of that stuff is true and that she's a good girl and that her friend is just jealous.
