Has your evening or weekend been disrupted by a call from a telemarketer? If so, you’re not alone. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has been receiving complaints in increasing numbers from consumers throughout the nation about unwanted and uninvited calls to their homes from telemarketers.

Pursuant to its authority under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), the FCC established, together with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), a national Do-Not-Call Registry. The registry is nationwide in scope, applies to all telemarketers (with the exception of certain non-profit organizations), and covers both interstate and intrastate telemarketing calls. Commercial telemarketers are not allowed to call you if your number is on the registry, subject to certain exceptions. As a result, consumers can, if they choose, reduce the number of unwanted phone calls to their homes.

Cannot find a link for the UK...if anyone does, please post it for us!

I have registered all my phones (including cell) and it does work!

If a telemarketer calls my mother used to scream down the phone

I also heard of someone who told the telemarketer that her husband had just taken viagra and was going to spend some quality time with her husband

The other thing that works is blowing a whistle really hard into the receiver

I feel sorry for telemarketers... well not really, coz they have to call people and get all sorts of abuse thrown at them (or thier ear drums popped

My Mom and step-Dad just bought a house in Florida where they spend every winter, and obviously, a land line is needed there. The instant Mom knew the number they would have she put it on the Do Not Call list. It ain't working so well for them; they are still getting over 30 telemarketing calls a DAY.

Does it take time to take affect? It really is only a handful of days that they have had the number so Mom isn't totally cracked. Yet.

Most telemarketers should not call your number once it has been on the registry for 31 days. If they do, you can file a complaint at this Website: https://www.donotcall.gov/

I do the whistle thing and I blow it until they hang up. I once had an arguement with one, the person was chineese and couldn't speak english and we both got annoyed with each other nd I started swearing and the chineese probely said something rude kn chineese so I hung up and a second later the chiineese person called agian then I did the whistle thing and the microphone thing you put a microphone next to a pseaker and out the phone in the middle it screeches.

Yes, but I just put the phone down or leave it for a bit and they hang up eventually, sometimes I go along with it and after they have gone through all the glory details I say No thank you goodbye

I only use a mobile phone now. I still have the number, but it's not plugged in.
People still call me, and when they see me, they wonder why I never pick up. When I had a phone plugged, I'd quickly end the call once I understood what they were saying. The same happens with door visits, especially religious ones.
I simply close the door, and from the nearby window, you can see their confused faces:evillaugh:
