Should student loan debt be eliminated via forgiveness or bankruptcy?

If students had chosen better majors, things would be easier to repay. But, of course, I understand, everyone isn't cut out and/or has an interest in engineering or nursing.

Well, I think a lot of majors could have been more profitable to a student with better advisement. For instance, a philosophy major should be encouraged to get a graduate degree etc..

The problem is not really the loans or the loan companies and paying off student loans via taxes is a tough route to take. The problem is the grievous increase in education prices and the cost of the materials to learn. Today a book costs more than an entire class costed 20 years ago and the education that cost the last generations $10k to achieve is now $100k. Regulating pricing and subsidies towards career paths outmr nation needs is a much more practical solution if you ask me.

This is the problem I see student loan forgiveness running into. It is a massive amount of money to treat the symptoms, not the problem.

On top of it all, once you couple these problems with our poor public education system and lackluster programs to drive upcoming students into prominent careers, things like the Internet and "dreams" take over leading a large group of future college students down paths that only a select few will actually achieve. Public education is also a problem that would make more sense dumping money into to fix the problems.
