Have you ever thought of committing suicide?

Was it something you seriously considered doing? If so, what stopped you?

What are you thoughts about people who commit suicide?

I never seriously considered suicide, however I have been impacted by it by the loss of a few friends over the years who took their own lives.

I think it is a final act of desperation when the person can see no other way out. Other than the anger that is felt, I try not to judge them, only feel sorry that they did not give themselves a proper chance at life.

I have in the past, the far past. I also have had friends take their life.

I do not respect people who use suicide for attention, because people who end up doing it, actually are blinded by so much pain that they think the only cure is taking their own heart beat and that makes me want to cry.

I never actually considered doing it, more of a "I wonder if anyone would care if I was gone" -or- "this crappy life is just going to get worse as time goes on" type of thought... It's only natural to think like that when you're depressed (which I was for a while, in the past). Life has it's ups and downs, you just gotta roll with the punches.

I knew a few people who did commit suicide and while it's their life to end, I couldn't help but think it was a selfish act.  Family and friends end up devastated, heart broken and whatnot.

What are you thoughts about people who commit suicide?

Suicide, in my opinion, isn't selfish. It’s sad, yes, but not selfish. It’s selfish of those left behind to try to make light of the deceased’s situation. Suicide is not a selfish act. It’s not for attention. It’s for relief. As sad as that sounds, it is. Someone who commits suicide, who goes all the way for an act that takes it all away, is looking for a way to feel better.

At the point when someone is suicidal, they aren't thinking about other people, but they aren't thinking about themselves either. (Which, by definition, rules out their SELFishness.) They are lost, confused, and consumed by a dark feeling that takes away their ability to truly think about the world around them. They get swept up in a bad place and, sometimes, unfortunately, can't find their way out.

That's my two cents worth.

I'm fairly certain each case is unique and has it's own circumstances. There is no way to know what every suicidal person is thinking or what state of mind they are in before they do the deed.

Yes, I have considered suicide in my dark times. Aside from what Jazzy said. I agree.

I think if you have family among the living that is one thing. I wouldn't agree with the person opting out. But everyone has their own reasons and I don't hold that against them nor do I feel condescending or judgmental of what or why they would want to. The world isn't nice.

But if their family died and it is too much to bare. Than I don't blame the person if they want to go be with their family in the after life. I wouldn't blame them for doing it.

I have never thought about suicide nor would I ever have the guts to kill myself.

My words for people who think about it: Don't do it! Sure, you may have bad days but that doesn't mean that things won't get better.

I have actually attempted it on 3 occasions. So I completely get where those who attempt it or actually succeed are coming from.
