Is software support/help important to you? Like getting help from your software's main support forum, through emails, tickets, phone support, etc..

Do you need support and help a lot?

Or are you a do-it-yourselfer and figure out most problems on your own?

Me personally, I tend to figure out probelms on my own but its nice to know that I can go somewhere and get the answers I need if I am in a bind.

We hardly ever have problems, so there's really no need to go to the PHPBB support forum. As for the host's support forum, well, the owner of the forum is also the tech-admin on my forum at the same time, and as he's almost always on anyways, whether you go on my site or his, it's easy to ask him for help.

That would be me. I asked for support at the phpBB community maybe...twice in the past three years.

IPB has had excellent support (miles ahead of what vBulletin ever offered, and vBulletin's support is now extra). I don't really need to go to other place for them.

When I need MyBB help, I get help in their forum support as well. They're really good, but obviously not as good as IPB's (then again, they're volunteers).

I thought most staff members on open-source software support forums ARE volunteers? Or are there paid positions even on open source softwares?

Not for Forum Software, I don't think, but Ubuntu, for example, is an example where they offer official professional support for a fee.
