Supreme Court Extends Marriage Equality

But the Court missed a chance to perhaps issue a ruling that would work nationwide.

Right now, Homosexual Marriage is still illegal in almost half the states.

Florida is still pursuing it in the courts to get a diffi ruling in the courts so it will force the supreme court to make a actual ruling. Right now all the courts have made the same ruling and that's why the supreme court has no interest on this.

What great news! Government power has just grown with more stealing of other peoples money through marriage!

*shakes head in disbelief* Wow...talk about a one-track, Galt's Gulch mind; that ain't even worth dignifying with a response.

Truth hurts. This fight has nothing to do with marriage since anyone at any time can get married. Its about money and all the benefits that come with other peoples money. Most states had already given the same rights to gay couples like visiting the hospital and being able to see there loved ones.

The only reason government is involved in marriage is for power over the people to promise goodies and freebies. If government was not involved in marriage all this back and forth hate would not be a issue. Who could get married would not be a issue.

are you benefiting by being married?

Besides being happy no. We do not use it when we do our taxes. But then again I bought my house and work van when the government was wasting other peoples money doing the clunkers for cars and money for first time home owners. It was $7000 for cars and $8000 or 9000 for homes if I remember right. Didn't take a dime. I still remember the car salesman and realtor in absolute confusion when I said no to both and explained it was theft. But it's free they said! Idiots!

^ Your only contribution to this thread was "Next thing you know, we'll be granting pedophiles rights to have sex with children." ....that will never happen and I sincerely hope you don't want to be right about that.

Is that like saying all homosexuals are pedophiles? Because that's what it reads like to me. Heterosexual people (and their marriages) aren't any better or any less sinful, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with homosexual sex or marriage of two people of the same sex. To even think that something horrible like pedophilia would become legal is one-hundred percent ignorant and simple-minded, and it is a horrible example of whatever was trying to be proved. The least we can do is be civil and have an adult conversation.

and you believe that all same-sex couples don't care about getting married, but more about getting "free" stuff from the government? not everyone wants free handouts, the proof is yourself... but not all straight couple marriages think like you and get "free" handouts, so lets ban marriages altogether then why don't you?

people want to get married because that's what couples do, of course there's people out there that want to do things that might benefit themselves and others, but that's far and few between, just like straight couples...

RE: Supreme Court Extends Marriage Equality In 11 More States

Yeah, the assumption that gay couples ONLY want tax breaks and other marriage benefits isn't really a valid argument, more of a cynical one. Maybe most of them just want to be married just like you are TL, simple as that. Homosexuals are not 2nd class citizens. Why should you get the exclusive right to be happily married and tell other couples they can't do the same? ...because your partner happens to be a girl?

If they do not want benefits anyone anywhere in these 50 states they can get married. They just want government to recognize marriage to get something. Its a lie to say otherwise.

But they can get married. They can buy the rings. They can rent the tuxes. Someone somewhere will rent them the banquet room and make the cake. Some church, priest, pastor or private citizen will do the ceremony to make them a married couple. So it is for the freebies from government they fight so hard for this.

We all know that's not a real legitimate wedding though, so it's not the same. It's just playing dress up.

Sure its a real marriage if two people make a commitment. There was a time in America where government had no role in marriage. When two people married it was a official bond and the family and friends who witnessed it made it official. But for some reason it can't be real unless government says so. We have fallen so far that we need government freebies to make a commitment between two people official. How sad for America.

If that's your stance on marriage, why are you legally married then?

Thats what my wife wanted and to be honest my ideas on many of these issues has evolved since then. But back then I could say honestly all I would have needed is her, me and family to be there for the ceremony and thats it. The only thing government should do in marriage is recognize we made a commitment for hospital visits, wills and such. And I have no problem including gays in that. None whatsoever.

Regardless, seems kind of hypocritical to be involved in something you're so against.

yeah, really...

is hole argument is hypocritical, full of assumptions and inaccurate...

and if you're against marriage benefits, why don't you advocate that marriage be dissolved altogether, so even straight people can't get married to get benefits...

RE: Supreme Court Extends Marriage Equality In 11 More States

Who's to say heterosexual couples don't get married just for the benefits? I'm quite certain that has happened at some point in the history of marriage. People in general, whether they are gay, straight, bisexual or whatever, will do horrible things. It's not about sexual orientation, and heterosexuals sure as hell aren't above anyone. It's either all or nothing. Either everyone--as long as they're consenting adults--is allowed to get married or NO ONE is.

Sure if I was taking from government. But regardless thats what this debate is about. Freebies.

RE: Supreme Court Extends Marriage Equality In 11 More States

Regardless, gay people are getting legally married in half the country and it'll probably be all 50 states soon. I'm sure your pocketbook and your life in general won't be affected. :P

no, it's more of a rights issue... you're just trying to make people think the gays want your money and that's why they want to get married...
