Taxation: Good or Bad?

Obviously, a fully centralised government--such as a communist one--does not need to tax its population, since it is already in full control of the economy.

But a market-based government also does not strictly need to raise income, if it is in control of the currency; it can just print more, as required.

So it seems that taxation has three benefits: it can be a tool for wealth redistribution, it helps regulate government spending by tying it to total economic activity, and it doesn't force the government to be directly in charge of its own currency.

Certain taxes I think is okay as long as it's not mishandled.

Too much tax can hurt your average citizen though.

I dont mind contributing my share as long as I get even a small say in how it is distributed.

Thats what elections are / should be for.

With the way the world economy works, if we want to have infrastructure and public services then taxes are a necessary evil. The big question is what exactly is taxed and how, and whether it is fair to everyone.

Both
Like it does help pay for roads and stuff that makes life a little better, especially with the way the world is now with covid the economy has taken a huge hit but as long as governments don’t abuse it for their own reasons.

People's money comes from paying their taxes. If the local government stops this, it will have a bad impact on the country's economy. The local government cannot carry out projects for the benefit of the residents.

Other than the purpose of wealth redistribution, taxes are a source of income to provide social services, public housing, healthcare and build infrastructure. I don't mind paying tax as long as it is used wisely by the government.

Its fine as long as government use that taxes in public welfare but mostly we see government misuse these funds and does not use even 50% of it on public welfare

I wouldn’t say it’s good or bad. I don’t like paying taxes, but it’s necessary to keep the wheels turning in our society.

Whether it is good or bad, it is the Governments income or salary. Nothing can be done about it.

If the government just goes about printing notes, it would drive the economy into a quick inflation. The best bet is to tax but it should be proportionate to income.

As far as l am concerned, l am really comfortable with the paying of taxes. The government uses the money for services to the people.
