When Her Teacher Came Out As Gay, A Little Girl Wrote Him A Beautiful Letter

As part of anti-bullying week at the elementary school where he works, a teacher known as Mr. R asked how many of his young students had heard the word "gay" being used as an insult. To his surprise, almost everyone in the class put their hands up. The same number of hands shot up when he asked if they thought that being gay was a bad thing. Mr. R decided to take the opportunity to tell his class that he himself was gay to let them know that when they use the word, they are talking about him.

A couple of days later, he received a letter on his desk along with all the normal absence excuses and permission slips.

Mr. R told Pink News that his initial announcement that he was gay brought a lot of surprised reactions and questions from his students, but that they got over it pretty fast. The letter brought tears to his eyes, but when he thanked the nine-year-old girl who wrote it, she just shrugged, told him, "It's just your life," and continued with her school work.

Telling his young students that he was gay was a big deal for this teacher, but for the kids, it was just something new that they learned about Mr. R. Let's hope that one day, everyone will have the same mindset as this sweet little girl.

How awesome was that?

Someone give that girl a cookie, not for the letter, but for her apathy.
