The face may look familiar to viewers of the Channel 4 television show, King of the Hill.

But salesman behind counters in Nottinghamshire failed to notice the cartoon character on the fake identity card was Bobby Hill. And the age given on the document was only 17.

However in an undercover operation by trading standards, a teenager using this ID card successfully purchased alcohol six times.

More than half of the 22 shops tested by the county council trading standards operation either served the teenager alcohol without asking for identification, or accepted fake ID, even though it identified that he was underage.

A total of seven stores failed to ask for identification and six checked his false ID card but still sold him the alcohol.

Unbelievable is all I can say.

Question: What is the legal drinking age in the UK?

^No it doesn't and it's very scary. How many other ones got away with it? How old were they?

There are a few issues with selling alcohol to minors that needs to be addressed here in the UK. As far as I'm aware, we're not allowed to confiscate the ID if we believe it to be false. Likewise, we cannot hold someone acting in an argumentative or violent manner, and similarly we cannot halt shoplifters until they leave the store, as until they leave a theft has not technically been committed. Laws here suck.

A fake ID with Bobby Hill from King of the Hill? Such irony, as the teenager might face rehab or juvenile detention.

^ I would think the people who need detention are the idiots that sold him the alcohol.

Considering he was part of a trading standards sting operation, I highly doubt he'll face repercussions. Perhaps reading the article would help.
