The first rule of forums, chat rooms and bulletin boards is: DON’T FEED THE TROLLS. If you feed them, they grow. If you starve them, they wither up and die.

However, sometimes it’s hard to tell you’ve been trolled until you’re in a keyboard lather. Protect your sanity and reputation with this useful guide to 18 kinds of internet trolls.

I found this list very interesting. To be honest, I never knew there were this many types of trolls. Did you?

Gee, on one forum ( a long time ago ) I met the following types of trolls:

#3 - #4 - #7 - #8 - #12 and #18.

What troll types have you had the pleasure to meet?

*Please do not name the forum where you met your troll/trolls. No need to feed them! :lol:/>

Just me.

Remember? I was branded a troll by somebody that would know.

What type of troll are you?

At one time or another I've been several different kinds. But usually I'm just a generic troll troll...

you know....

@Doc: Remember that heart attack forum we were on an the whole staff qualified for all 18 of the troll types? Then I go and defend myself and I get banned for being the troll. Oh, that made my day!

What I find funny about trolls are they make it so obvious. They think they are getting away with fooling everyone. You'd think they would play their cards a little closer to their pocket. You see with me, I've played cards all my life and I will beat you hands down on any game you want to play with me. I'm locked and loaded and I'm just waiting to be able to take that safety lock off, aim, and shoot you straight off whatever forum your sick ass thinks it can infiltrate where I'm a member. Do I troll? Yes, but I troll for fish not humans.

i sorta wish you hadn't posted this but as long as you did, since hunter s thompsen ate his gun, i'm claiming the de facto deanship of the school of gonzo journalism. i guess that makes me a classic forum troll, presenting as me, out to entertain and be entertained, teach and be taught, so i tend toward posting volatile media to spark the conversation. if you look a little farther back you'll find older blogs about what is a troll that better fit me. nowadays, you rarely see it, with people going for individuals or feuding pairs to light up rather than the whole board.

i like things laid back and casual, but i'm also a street player and if things need to get a little coarse and rough they will, especially online where nobody can be physically harmed by it. i'm a notorious #11 because i don't scream in caps and can get extremely vulgar and graphic when provoked without using any four letter words at all with hard consonant sounds.

i'd rather not, though and i'm happy to have found a site so not into all that nonsense.

right on jazzy. at thoughts, the dimwits would make an account and then immediately post a nasty remark in my direction or make a nasty thread about me. it didn't take long for everybody to see what was happening.

there was always a distinction between being a troll and trolling for comments. on boards i'd just come to for a little while, i'd bring something with me to post and then start reading and posting comments to threads and replying to comments made in my older threads. sort of like chumming.

I often come across as a #2 myself. Partially, that is. I can hold my own in a debate, but it irks me to see simple misspellings or misuses of common words that are taught in elementary school. And with web browsers nowadays including a spellcheck ability, I see no reason for somebody whose first language is English to make mistakes unless they're lazy, or downright stupid.

I was known as a troll from years ago. I don't remember when exactly, but it was seriously bad.

What type of troll and what made you stop?

Question 1: 4, 11, and 17.

Question 2: A forum ban.

Thank you for your honesty and thank you for answering my questions.

I'm number 2. LOL XD

I've done number 3 a couple of times on boards I didn't like.

I've done 5 once but it was on an online forum. ;p

Come now, Tommy. Don't be shy.

What you're notorious for being is #10.

absolutely not mr. locke. in fact, since something like that has only happened on a notorious troll site, i would question how you obtained that information and what you motive for bringing it here might be?

i'm engaged in a study of chat forum trolling and how the owners of some forums use character assassination as a means to increase revenue by the increased post count from all the back and forth howling about a favored target such as myself or the fraud victim advocate, big al.

i fully intend to publish the full information about forum owners, admins and worst offenders far and wide. people who are using aliases for privacy reasons who are not assaultive have nothing to worry about from me. cowards who hide behind those aliases to be disruptive and defamatory do. if a position like that is grounds for a ban from anywhere, so be it.

i'm trying to do honest business online. being stalked by people from that board you are reporting that i'm a #10 troll at everywhere that i go impedes that and i will do whatever needs to be done to protect my own interests and those of my associates.

I've been pretty patient so far but that has now ended. I'm only going to say this once and you can consider this a final warning. What has happened on other boards, needs to stay there. Off Topix is a peaceful community and people are welcome here. Well, people that don't attack each other and fill Off Topix with hatred and accusations against other members. If you want to troll each other, you are NOT welcome here. I know who you are and you know who you are. Either it ends here or I will end it for you.

Thank you for responding as it means that you know who I'm talking about.

You claim I'm wrong, and in the same breath admit I'm right.

Not the brightest crayon in the box, are you?
