What is the best answer to "Why are you single"?

I haven't fallen in love with someone fallen in love with me.

Maybe that? Or some people are born with the gift of not needing a mate.

My immediate response to this is always ..'Why ruin a perfectly good friendship, by turning it into a 'relationship'. ' XD

I never understood why people feel the need to question other's about them being single. Acting like its some sort of disease that needs to be fixed.

Because I'm always working. =/

Can't argue with that.

I honestly just give the impression that it's none of their business because it really isn't. If I were to bother answering with the truth that I simply have no interest or desire in not being single, they wouldn't believe it because it's hard to fathom being something that they can't be which is a person who is disinterested in the whole idea of relationships.

I think people ask this due to how our society paints this picture that everyone who is anyone is with someone and it comes off as weird to be anything else.

I say turn the tables and ask them why are they NOT single? Then respond to every answer with an idea they are missing out by not being single or some other answer they would give to you and see how much they enjoy it. I haven't had this question pop up lately but it's come up before.

Indeed. I've heard lots of people say that a long-term-single-person must be in the closet (gay). While this can be true for some people, its not for everyone.
Some people just like being single, plain and simple.

This. I am constantly asked if I have a significant other, or why I'm not in a relationship. And when I tell people I'm single, they look at me like I'm crazy. I don't understand their reasoning for it or why they feel they (and everyone else) needs to be in a relationship, so it's kind of a vice versa thing for me. But I'm single because I'm happy with it. I don't want or need to be in a relationship. And, in fact, it scares the hell out of my ability to be independent.
