Stolid biz loses a generation; Wi-Fi in cars could deliver a crushing blow

...the Luddites in radio still believe the Internet didn’t happen, that we’re all prisoners of the dial, where there are few stations and little innovation.

There are radio alternatives (i.e., Pandora and the forthcoming iTunes Radio). Please don’t confuse Spotify and Rdio and Deezer and MOG/Daisy with radio, they’re nothing of the sort. Oh, they might have a Pandora or iTunes Radio component, but these streaming services are retail replacements, lending libraries wherein for 10 bucks a month you can go into the store and borrow anything you want, as long as you return it. Also, you’re not limited to one album at a time.

Don't really know. I've always listened to online radios and our radio at Metal Tavern is growing in listeners.

Oh I have the normal radio shows. I do like Radio 2 - for the folk shows and a few others. But hate Radio 1, Kiss, Heart etc
Stupid conversations about nothing, crap music, adverts etc

Here's why radio is dying. People like choice. We have TVs with hundreds of channels, but we still buy DVDs of our favourite shows, and you know why? Because we like having the choice, knowing we can watch something we love, instead of flicking channels hoping something ok is on somewhere. The same goes for radio. Most people have a computer or mp3 player, so they can get whatever music they like, whenever they like. As opposed to the radio which might play something you like, or it might not.

It's not that they never play anything good, it's just that even if they do they still manage to ruin it a little.

it has nobody to blame but 'morning zoo show' radio DJs.
And they just keep going all day long, cutting off songs, talking through the beginning... then they get callers. *shudders*

I still listen to my radio in the car, but the commercials & the talk shows are just so obnoxious. As soon as I get the cigarette lighter in my car fixed, I'm gonna start listening to my iPod on the go. At least that way, there's no commercials whatsoever. n_n

Eh, they all said video killed the radio in the 80s and it never happened. ;)

Radio will always exist, even though it will probably only exist on the internet in the not-too-distant future.

Over the air died a long time ago.

New bands don't get air time, instead they focus on stupid talk shows, and spamming their listeners with generic mainstream crap.

XM/Sirius is a great alternative, but I prefer to use Songza and Last.fm for all my radio listening.

^ Well it depends what station you listen too. I mean stations like Planet Rock & Total Rock are brilliant but they are for specific genres and I think are on DAB.

But if you mean FM & AM shows then I totally agree.

I myself quit listening to the radio a long while back due to the amount of crap I kept hearing.
