Have you ever been on forums that send these out every so often? If so, how do you feel about them. I am a member of two forums (no longer active on either one) and I find them perfectly pointless in my book. I mean, sending out an email saying, Hey so and so, please come back to our forum! We've got awesome updates-- blah, blah, blah. Usually if I get emails like that, that does not make me want to return to the site at all. Emails like that usually get put in my junk mail, and I don't plan on visiting that site again any time soon. These emails just drive me insane. I'll admit, I used to be bad about sending out bulk emails and things, and sadly, the free host I'm with does have a mass email function, and I've only used it once, but I didn't send out one of those hateful emails. How do you feel about these emails?

I don't feel to strong about them. I get them once, and then they make it into my spam filter.

In reality, they are the most annoying thing ever. I was on a site that sent it every day. If I wanted to be active on your site, I would be.. And you don't need to freak out because I'm not there for one day. Get a grip.

I have never sent one.

What I hate the most is forums that send them out every 2 or three weeks that I'm not there. Uh, hello, some of us do have forums of our own and are staff at other forums, and these same people have real world things going on as well. And like you said, if we want to be active, and we're interested in the topic at hand, then we will be active. If not, that's okay too. It's a free country, and we can do almost anything we want.

I'm ok if they send them to me to keep me notified with updates.

If its like

omg come back now....ill make you staff

No, thats a turn off.

They are really annoying and they don't really work... if anything it makes your desire to stay away from the forum greater.

That's for sure. Drives me mad....

Like Skilet said, all of them make it into my spam box sooner or later.

I don't know where mine would go as I don't read e-mail unless it's a validation e-mail that I am expecting.

If e-mail system isn't that great so I don't really bother with them for my board at all. I rather use the mass PM feature if that was available which it isn't unless you are using Jcink. That was great for getting people to pay attention since it forced people to go to the forum itself to read it if they were inactive and regular members can just read it like any PM provided it isn't used too much.

If it's sent out like once a month or every two months I really don't mind. If it's a board I just forgot about or lost the link to, I might go back there if I got the reminder.

That's actually similar to the one I recieved this morning. I'd just gotten done checking out my own forum, looked in my email, and then I got a message titled Where are you? It's like, uh, it's not any of your business where I am. Just downright annoying. Emails where they tell you about some kind of event coming up are okay, though, but only if one finds such a thing interesting.

sbfc, I actually agree with you for a change. I only went to this site I told you about on account of a post exchange, and the only reason I would remain active on such a site is if I found myself enjoying the place (which I didn't, technically) but really, they are really annoying.

I mostly ignore them...there was ONE forum which got me to check their site out again. Because it wasn't the generic, REPLACE USERNAME HERE form.

I don't really feel any negativity to forum spam emails. I get a shit load of spam as it is in my email folders. It doesn't bother me what so ever. I just delete them and move on. But I can see how it can be irritating.

Yeah its funny to watch people rage out over an email, as if their inbox is clean & pristine at all times and a forum communication disrupted that.... Yeah right :P
