Stickying this thread due to the anniversary....

(The Guardian) Today is the one-year anniversary of the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan, and non-governmental organisations in the country are calling for the release of the country’s assets abroad, which are frozen in several countries – primarily the United States. Patrick Wintour reports: One year on from the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan, a group of 32 Afghan and international non-governmental organisations (NGOs) are urging the international community not to abandon the country’s people, but instead address the root causes of the its economic crisis, stand up for human rights and increase humanitarian aid.

Reflecting a concern that the deep ideological deadlock between the Taliban and the international community is consigning millions of Afghans to destitution, they call for a clear roadmap that will lead to the restoration of the basic functions of the Afghan central bank and the release of Afghanistan’s assets frozen abroad, mainly in the US. The NGOs call for the disbursement of badly needed Afghan banknotes that have been printed but are impounded in Poland.

They need to stop oppressing women ASAP.
True; however, this isn't 1996. That set of Taliban leaders were oppressive as fuck.

Could 2022's version be just as bad? Right now, no one knows; it looks like it, but only time will tell.

I read this in this guy's voice:

Also, this came to mind:

I've played a bunch of the C & C games in the past, Smiley; they're pretty good....

And of all the characters in them, you chose to emulate Greg Burdette? :p

Brandon’s caused the worst military blunder in American history while creating a human crisis in a country. I wanted us all out around the world but before we left this country we needed to give this a country a chance to at least honor all our soldiers who suffered and gave their lives for this.

Like it needed to be said it’s anything but a insult.
As bad as the slags towards Bush and Obama were - and those could get nasty, particularly ones directed at Obama - there was still a semblance of respect for the office of President.

That respect went out of the way beginning with Trump and as much as I want to dial it down, we're too far down the road to turn back there. That said, the "Let's go Brandon!" crack is another reason I have little-n-any faith left in the American people most days...

Any semblance of respect went away after the 2000 elections. Except for a few exceptions in the population and I know a few the left and right have nothing in common across the board on where we want America to go and how it should be governed. So I kind of like this idea for most politicians. And I mean figuratively in politics.

Yeah, the election the Florida Supreme Court stole from then-Vice President Gore, that one?

The left recounted those ballots so many times it was hardly stolen. Super close yes!
Wasn't a lot of that due to some stupid-as-hell ballot design down in South Florida?
