The fearful society we have become

This article is full of contradictions and it's very confusing.

Police cars from the Wiltshire Constabulary raced to Lydiard Park in Swindon this afternoon when an old man in a coat was spotted talking to young children.

‘I seen him first,’ said mother of 7, Dawn English. ‘I was having a quick fag and holding on to Killer our bull mastiff when I seen him on the other side of the play area. He was smiling and minding his own business right there, in full sight of those kids.

The man was tasered, handcuffed and led away through jeering crowds to Swindon Police Station.

Why did the police feel it necessary to taser this old man? This is a sad world when an old man cannot even go to the park and watch children play.

I know.. I mean

'smiling' and 'minding his own business' !!! In public!!

Can you imagine the impact on the kids, when they saw this poor old guy who was being nice to them being treated that way?

sad very sad

Again.

As it involves a 'child' the first reaction is over-reaction and the idea of 'discreation' and 'presumed innocence' and 'reasonable doubt' are banished in favor of Zero Tolerance.

But then we also have the fact that there is most likely back story here that was not in the article.

Like I stated in my previous post, this story was full of contradictions. Oh well, it did get a good discussion going.

That line below their name kinda gives it away, doesn't it?

(Not to mention some of the other articles.)

Oh?

Then you have missed things like this:

What would you do if you saw a man hanging around the playground and he didn't have any kids there?

Well, soon that question may be moot. Miami Beach is just the latest locality considering legislation that would make 19 playgrounds children's play areas -- i.e., strictly off limits to any adult not accompanied by a kid. Laws like that are becoming more and more common, according to nonprofit playground promoting organization, KaBoom. But are they making our playgrounds -- and children -- any safer?
