I think we've had that conversation in the past, years ago.
As I said elsewhere, sex is a fixed constant; with very rare exception you're either male - XY - or female - XX.
Gender, on the other hand, is a social & cultural construct built up over time that people are now starting to challenge regularly. Plus, as more and more people interact with, work with, and co-exist with other trans and gender non-conforming individuals, they're seeing them not as freaks or deviants but as fellow human beings deserving of the same dignity and respect we give each other.
And that includes accepting the fact that questions about one's own sexuality aren't restricted to just adults; I'm not a gambling man but I'd almost bet most of us thought long and hard about who we were as people long before we turned 18 and odds are, a lot of that took place within a school environment that is increasingly under pressure to conform to the whims of elected officials. (As much as I enjoy watching the collective freak show over at LibsofTikTok, I also see it for what it is at times:
an effort by the Right to Rule 11 members of the LGBTQ community.)
