Do you think dog pounds should wait longer before putting their animals to sleep?

Do you think that its really necessary for the pound to gas their animals? Can they figure out another way to deal with strays and the pet population?

I don't know for sure how the SPCA and stuff work, but we need more wildlife officers and stuff where I live. I live about half an hour north of lloydminster, and people from there come across the North Saskatchewan River and dump their animals on the side of the road. some of them die, and some of them don't. the ones that don't die we're having a problem with. my neighbour raises sheep, and the dogs that people drop off become wild and kill the sheep just because they're bored. they don't eat anything, they just torture and scare these animals because they can. some of them do eat them, but the ones that don't aren't even strays! the people out here who raise cattle have all lost animals to these stray dogs, and all these dogs do is torture the cows until they die. lots of these dogs are fat and well-fed animals that are just allowed to run free and do whatever they please, and then the owners get upset when we shoot their mutt dogs because they're killing $1000 dollar animals! people need to control their animals better, and fix the ones that they don't want bred!

You are right, it does start with the person. Get your animals spayed and neutered. Unfortunately, pounds are overfilled, and do not have the capacity to hold more animals. What needs to be done has to be done, unless people adopt animals, and make sure overpopulation does not occur.

Until then, poor animals will suffer because their owner cannot take care of them, or are not spayed or neutered.

something that my dad told me about:

once a year in the onion lake reserve they have a dog day.

everyone chains up their dog or takes it inside.

any dog that is not chained up is shot.

I know it sounds mean, but it helps keep the population down.
