“Booksellers Wary About Holiday Sales” (Business Day, Dec. 16) notes that e-book sales are down without citing what is perhaps the major reason for the decline. Digital sales were attractive to readers like me when most new titles were available for $9.99 or less. Now the price of e-books is in many cases approaching the cost of print books. No wonder “the e-book thrill is gone.”

So what do you think? Are e-books affordable? Do you buy them?

An "E-book" still has to be written, and to go through the editorial and formatting process, which all takes the same amount of effort as a paper printed book.

The only thing missing is the dead trees.

So while it SHOULD be cheaper than a traditional book, the same amount of background work is done, except for the printing process.

At least that is what the publisher lady told me.

Don't buy E-Books as I prefer printed books.

Never bought one, but if they're the same price as regular books I'd say they were affordable. Even if they should be cheaper because the distribution costs approach 0... like Steam which pulls of some truly ridiculous sales.

I don't buy e-books unless they're significantly cheaper than print mainly because I prefer print still.

I have never bought and E-Book, I have saw the prices and they are pretty good for a book. I still prefer paper books though ;)
