@TonyEvans92a: Ten years ago today there was a brief period of optimism. The findings of the Hillsborough Independent Panel were so comprehensive, so damning of the authorities, it seemed like 23 years of lies had b...…
He makes a lot of valid points. Hillsborough was an absolute travesty, and that justice STILL has not been done for the 96 is disgraceful. In the wake of the event the people of Liverpool weren't even allowed to grieve properly as they were quickly met with 'get on with it' and rhetoric that they shouldn't be wallowing on it. It was awful. The fact they're now having to endure a 10 day mourning period for the Queen when they were given practically no time to get over the loss of loved ones...it's a telling thing. Granted, we talk about the failings at Hillsborough, the Burnden Park disaster was as bad, featured a lot of the same failings and took place a great many years prior. We really are horribly slow at learning.
Did Grenfell Tower victims get time to mourn? Pretty sure nope. I'm trying to think what incidents and events do get days off/mourning time and can't think of any off the top of my head (there are probably loads outside of the bank holidays for the war)
Not saying it was a bad thing that happened. It was really bad and its good that some of the truths are coming to light so they are forced into reforming what happened. Though I'm not sure how something like that will ever happen again because of security and the way you get into sports nowadays.

Not even comparable but thanks for feeding into the "Woe is me" rhetoric that often gets thrown at Liverpool supporters whenever Hillsborough gets brought up. At the very least, thoughts like that remind us of the years and years of crap thrown at the Northwest of England by the powers-that-be (just say something positive about Margaret Thatcher in Liverpool and see what happens....)
Your discussig the Queen passing in relation to Hillsborough,
Id say my Grenfell comparison is way more relatable lol. If you think its Woe is Me then its you saying it, not me. Im just saying that im trying to think of any other disaster or event that has happened where there is extended time given to mourning such event.
Is Hillsborough not mourned yearly on the day by teams? Is the Munich disaster mourned yearly by teams? When is a sporting event mourned for more than a day a year to compare it to the Queens death which will as well be mourned yearly, except for the fact it just happened hence the 10 days.
Liverpool did also open the Kop end for people to pay their respects and it was filled with flowers, so people did mourn, i dont know if clubs cancelled their games over it, but again, which other incident has made football cancel?
Again, not saying that Hillsborough isnt tragic and that is appauling that they have had to fight all this time to even get to where it is now. But to compare it to the Queens 10 days mourn is silly. Add to the fact that the whole country isnt shut down for 10 days, its the Monday, and then everything else realistically goes back to the same.
The Queen's funeral: What happens now Queen Elizabeth II has died and King Charles III is on the throne? Day-by-day explanation of the 10-day mourning period
