Now there really is no excuse for getting lost in the supermarket - a German scientist has designed a sat-nav specifically for finding your way through large buildings.
The app downloads a 3D model of the buidling, then measures walking speed as a user moves through the building - so can offer 'sat nav' style functions without needing to connect to a satellite.#
Similar ââ¬Ësatnavs for shopping mallsââ¬â¢ are being created by companies around the world, including Google and Nokia.
Engineers funded by the German government, have designed an interior GPS-style system that can be operated from an everyday smartphone.
Project manager Harald von Rosenberg got the idea from visiting a vast local 'megaplex shopping mall'.
He said: ââ¬ËI thought, 'wouldn't it be helpful if at such moments the smart phone could quickly shift to an interior space navigator and point the way through the rows of shops and stairwells.'ââ¬Ë
The project designed a chip able to register how fast and how far the user is walking - and work out direction, so it can offer precise 'navigation' information without having to contact a satellite, or even a mobile phone network.

I want one of these! What are your thoughts on this?
