A couple say they were forced to used the back door of a registry office in Moscow - because they were both dressed as brides.
The union of Ellison Brux, 21, and transgender Dimitriy Kozhuhov, 23, who prefers to be called Alina Davis, is being billed as Russia's first gay wedding.
Registry office staff in the famously intolerant country had to recognise the couple as the groom is still legally a man and they had a certificate allowing them to marry.
But officials refused to welcome the two 'brides' through the front door and forced them in through the back entrance because both of them were wearing a wedding dress.
Alina, who has always dressed as a woman and identifies as a female, said: "We love each other and wanted to cement that union, and we had no problems when we handed in the application to the registry office.
"But then when the head of the registry office called he rang several times telling us that they didn't want us to turn up both in wedding dresses."
But the two ignored the advice anyway and turned up at the registry office both wearing dresses, and ended up being ushered in through the back door.
When asked for a statement the head of the register office declined to comment but Alina said they had tried not to let the officials' attitude ruin their big day.
She added: "When we arrived at the day of the wedding, the head of the office was trying to hide us all the time.
"They rushed us into the office through a back door and that really offended us. He told us we were a disgrace to the society and we needed medical treatment."
