There is in existence a petition to get Caitlyn Jenner to return her gold medals because she ‘competed as a man while believing herself to be a woman’ in the 1976 Olympics, and nearly 2,500 people have signed it.

The petition claims that when Caitlyn took part in the Olympics as Bruce Jenner she was a woman participating in a man’s event as ‘Ms Jenner claims that she has always believed herself to be truly female’ which, according to the petitioners, puts her in violation of the committee rules.

They say that ‘with a heavy heart’ they believe her medals should be returned for competing in the wrong category.

The petition reads:

Dear International Olympic Committee,

It has recently come to light that gold medalist Bruce Jenner is in fact transgender, and therefore, identifies as a woman. We congratulate Ms. Jenner on these new developments and wish her the best. However, this creates somewhat of a problem as Ms. Jenner (as talented as she is) claims that she has always believed herself to be truly female, and therefore, was in violation of committee rules regarding women competing in men’s sports and vice versa.

Therefore, it is with a heavy heart that we must ask whether or not it is proper that Ms. Jenner should retain her olympic records in light of this, as we must now either claim that Bruce Jenner and Caitlyn Jenner are two entirely different people (which we know is not true), or that Bruce Jenner was, in fact, a woman participating in a men’s event. It is only fair to all involved that women receive their credit as champions of the Decathalon and that the men racing Ms. Jenner are not expected to compete with a superior, streamlined being such as herself.

We urge Ms. Jenner to support the transgender community by giving up the medals earned by competing against the wrong gender.

Thank you, and congratulations to Ms. Jenner for her courage!

#givebackthegold

Jenner took the gold for winning the decathlon in 1976. Sadly, quite a few people seem to be behind the idea, with the #GiveBackTheGold getting support on Twitter.

What do you think of the petition?

Oh dear god...

I don't care either way, but I wonder what Jenner has to say about it. :dontknow:

I meant 'who cares' in a bigger sense, it is amazing what the media reports as news these days.

i feel you on that one, and the people eat it up too...

also forget about the important things in life and in this world...

maybe the people that competed against her/him/it? :|
*Her.

The question I have is, what's the point? Even if she is stripped of her medals, that doesn't actually do anything, it's not like they can give them to someone else.

Also they say "with a heavy heart", which is total garbage. They try to sound like they care, but if they really cared they wouldn't be going through with this ridiculous thing. It's just people who are transphobics, but don't want anyone to know they are.

*him... because he was born a male and with a penis? :|

but yeah, i get your point...

A person going in for a sex change operation has no more changed their gender then a woman going into a salon to get their hair dyed has changed the color of their hair. The outside might appear different but the genetics remain the same hence why new hair comes in as the color they were born with or gray/white if they lose their hair color due to age and not as the color they dyed it.

As for the petition, there is no need for it as he is still a male who just had plastic surgery done to appear to look like a woman but he is still very much a man genetically speaking and that's the only thing that counts.
