Video games get a bad rap: They’re too violent. They waste too much time. They’re partly responsible for the child obesity epidemic. And that may all be true.

But there are also some benefits to spending a few hours on MW3, fragging your friends. According to research gathered by OnlineUniversities.com, video games can have positive effects on the brain, including strengthening memory and learning, improving the ability to reason and solve problems, and sharpening eye-hand coordination.

Does that mean you should skip the gym and the Sunday crossword puzzle to find better living through gaming? Not entirely. Because when it comes to the effects on your brain, video games are still a Good vs. Evil battle.

Question: What are your thoughts on this research?

Isn't this just the so-manieth research?

Not really seeing any new results.

Not moving and overeating cause obesity, not gaming. *glances at enabling parents.*

Video games have never been given the respect that they deserve. I've never truly been able to successfully fathom the reasonings behind why so many numerous individuals let themselves believe that the people that play video games are lazy. It's an experience that lasts a compilation of hours and for numerous is much more entertaining that watching a horrifically constructed movie, or watching an idiotically formulated episode of whatever it is that is usually on television. I may have been a little harsh there, but it annoys me. Video games continue to develop more and more and are becoming more like a cinematic experience than what is even provided in the movie theater. It especially annoys me because of the massive amounts of effort that go into making games like Gears of War, Batman, or Skyrim, it just seems like people need to get over their ignorance and start showing a little bit of damn respect. As far as gaming contributing to obesity, it's the equivalant of watching television, except you're actually doing something, and one could say that consoles such as the Wii have actually contributing to many people actually staying healthy.
