Thrifting at thrift stores

I just realized that I might be a bit of a hypocrite..
*hugs Angel* We're all hypocrites to some degree, my friend; the key is just acknowledging it while staying true to what you believe. ;)

That is too true. And yeah I just asked him if he had ever used it, and he said he did to make paninis..

We have a waffle maker that converts into a panini press.. but since I haven't figured out how to convert it, it doesn't count.. but I do have 2 waffle makers but the other is a Belgian waffle maker and they never come out as crispy as the panini press one..

So that doesn't count either.. LOL

I might have to add my husband to this list.. I mentioned to him today that he might have to keep an eye out for a stainless steel Instant Pot the next time he's in Thriftyshopper and he said that he's been looking for weeks.. LOL

You could get one cheap on Black Friday probably, that'll be here in a couple months.

I will keep an eye out.. Black Friday shopping up here is a LOT more calm and a LOT less LETHAL up here than when I lived in Brooklyn.. I mean it is like a total night and day difference.. when my husband and I first came up here to visit my brother for Turkey Day (I celebrate the Turkey, rather than the reason we eat it in November) back in 2012, he wanted to show us around up here. We were in a Walmart, literally an hour after we ate and the store was damned near empty. We walked around for a bit and then got some stuff to leave.

While at the check out line we were talking about the previous Black Fridays that made the news and ones we've seen first hand, and about how nice it was to not ha e to wake up at 3 a.m. to stand in line until 6 (my stepdad does this and has been for years and each year he has never been disappointed..) and how great it was to be able to walk around and calmly shop and think and not have to worry about having to fight someone in the store or be trampled to death on your way out of it.. and before we said anything else, the person in front of us turned around and put their hand on their chest and said, "I am so sorry for butting in like this, but where are you guys from, it sounds terrible."

And we were like NYC, and my parents responded, Long Island, but the violence happened in NJ, which is why we don't shop there on Black Friday because they make the news every year.. and this person was completely shocked.

But yeah, people go absolutely nuts on Black Friday and the irony is that the sales aren't really that much different and often are better throughout the year.. you just gotta be patient and not impulsive..

I laughed hard when my husband said he was just gonna go down to BJs and get a TV on Black Friday and that he wasn't worried about the violence.. and I told him that while it is great that he is so confident, that they will be sold out before the store opens.

And it was.

But we still got our TV anyway because I had a feeling that that would happen, so I pre-ordered it and it was set to arrive the following week.

I'll stop in to Goodwill every once in awhile but I've heard it's pretty hard to find good stuff nowadays because of the amount of resellers/scalpers who rush in there as soon as new stuff comes in, buy everything up and then resell it to make money. I've heard that the amount of them has just skyrocketed lately, maybe around the pandemic.

Goodwill is super pricy for a thrift store.. and up here my husband didnt have as much luck but saw a lot of good things but potential not to get them there and instead went to Thriftyshopper instead..

And he did.

I guess Goodwill charges what they do out of name recognition..

He saw a similar one being sold in Big Lots for $90 yesterday.. but this works perfectly and was clean and pristine and only needed a wipe down and the only thing missing is the valve cover which is $8 on Amazon and it comes with other parts too so we'll have spare parts for the future..
