Does anyone suffer from TMJ?

I think I have a mild case of it...it's either that or arthritis in my jaw. I have noticed that after I started working out with dumbbells that it's worse, so I might stop doing that.

Yes. The left side of my jaw clicks constantly and will lock up from time to time. I also make it worse because I'm grinding my teeth at night and am just generally very tense.

Just an FYI: my daughter has a night-guard (dentist designed/or at least recommended, I believe ??); uses it nightly & has said that it's working very well. :)

Night guards are expensive. They wanted to charge me about $600 for one. Maybe I should find a new dentist.

I'm going to ask her how much she paid for hers. & any other interesting stats she might have come across.

Mine was about that much too. I think I'm allergic to it?

I figured out one thing that exacerbates my TMJ... lifting dumbbell weights. Once I stopped it took about 3 days and now my jaw is back to normal. I guess I was using the muscles in my neck too much.

"I buy mouth guard/bite guard from HEB for $10 or so. Can find all kinds of options at Walgreens, CVS, Walmart, and the grocery store.

I use the HEB Dental Guard. I know there's no HEB in WA or OR, but here's a link to show versions at HEB--

A dentist convinced me to get/buy a dental guard from their office. An expensive learning experience, however, that dental guard lasts YEARS! I still have it but also use these temp ones.

One thing the dentist who convinced me to get this did NOT educate me about-- how best to clean. I told you about this. Hydrogen peroxide soak. And do not brush it, a hygienist told me that brushing a mouth guard isn't good.

Had I known better, I would've got a mouth guard from drug or grocery and not the dentist. Oh well!"

I tried the drugstore kind and the fit wasn't the same as the one from the dentist.

I was told to rinse my mouthguard every morning with hot water and to brush it with toothpaste weekly. When I brought it in twice a year for my dental cleaning, they would put it in their machine to give it a good cleaning.

You won’t find HEB’s outside of Texas and parts of Mexico.
