Inception star Tom Hardy is to play Sir Elton John in a biopic of the iconic singer's life called Rocketman.

The film is being made with the cooperation of the 66-year-old singer, who is an executive producer and is expected to re-record some of his hit songs for the feature.

Focus Features announced the casting of Londoner Hardy, who is best known for playing the terrorist Bane in The Dark Knight Rises.

The 36-year-old has had a varied career, but has carved out a niche playing brawny characters in films including Warrior, Lawless and Bronson.

The film is planned to begin shooting in late 2014, with the Candle In The Wind singer's civil partner David Furnish also on board as a producer.

Rocketman - which has been in the works since 2011 - will be directed by Michael Gracey from a screenplay by War Horse writer Lee Hall.

I would think they would have chosen an actor that a least looked more like Elton John.

Any way, are any of you planning on seeing Rocketman?

Well as long as he captures the spirit and emotion, looks dont really matter.
Sure, I'd watch.
